Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, has welcomed Cabinet Secretary Kenny MacAskill’s assurances that his concerns, and those of the Road Haulage Association, will be considered and that the situation with regard to the A9 will be kept under review. Dave said: “I have today written to the Chief Constable of the Northern Constabulary to make them aware of my concerns over the bunching of haulage vehicles on the A9." |

Dave Thompson MSP got on board with the campaign for tax justice when a double-decker bus on a mission pulled up outside the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday 3rd October. Commenting on this, Dave said: “I’m happy to get on board and ‘tick for tax justice’. Tax dodging reduces the resources available to Government, resources which are used to fund our public services. When one person or company avoids paying tax, we all lose out. Christian Aid and Church Action on Poverty’s ‘Tax Justice Bus’ was in Edinburgh, as part of a 53-day tour of the UK and Ireland, to highlight how global tax dodging is hurting the poor in the UK and beyond. Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, spoke yesterday in a debate on Bòrd na Gàidhlig’s Gaelic Language Plan in the Scottish Parliament. Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has congratulated the Shirlie Project on securing funding from the Third Sector & Social Enterprise Challenge Fund. The fund aims to help young people aged 16 to 24 to move towards and into employment. Dave highlighted his concerns over the operation of a relatively new form of gambling, the postcode lottery, saying: “I highlight a new form of lottery that I think is particularly distasteful—the postcode lottery. Members might find that strange, but in that model of gambling everyone in the country is entered by default, but must pay to be eligible for a share of the prize if their postcode wins. Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, has raised the possibility of a Highland Games being organised to coincide with the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the Scottish Parliament today. Dave has already written to the Highland Council and Highlands and Islands Enterprise to promote the idea, which could either see several small events scheduled in parallel with the Commonwealth Games, or one large Highland Games organised. Eight SNP MSPs from the Highlands and Islands have signed a strongly-worded letter to BBC Scotland protesting at "destructive" job cuts which the Corporation is planning throughout the region. Michael Russell (Argyll and Bute), Fergus Ewing (Inverness and Nairn), Rob Gibson (Caithness, Sutherland and Ross), Alasdair Allan (Western Isles), Dave Thompson (Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch), and Highlands and Islands regional MSPs Jean Urquhart, John Finnie and Mike MacKenzie have all told the BBC that they believe its actions threaten to "greatly diminish the essential service" which the BBC provides throughout the Highlands and islands. Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has advocated closing the current Inverness and Dingwall courts and building a new state of the art facility in Dingwall to serve the Inner Moray area in the Scottish Parliament today. A new consultation on the court structure in Scotland was issued last week which contained proposals to close Dingwall Sherrif Court. Dave proposed that neither Dingwall nor Inverness building were fit for purpose, and suggested that a new building in Dingwall would be a better solution. Dave Thompson MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed the statement today from the Scottish Government which signals no unbundling of the Clyde and Hebrides Ferries Service (CHFS), that the new contracted service will commence in 2016, and that CalMac will be awarded a three year interim contract until that time. Mr Thompson said, "I am already on record extoling the excellent service the staff on Calmac ferries supply to the travelling public, and also praising Calmac on their strides in improving the service and efficiency they currently supply. |
