Laggan Forest Trust, a charity nominated by Dave Thompson, MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, for the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) Scottish Charity Awards, is a finalist in the Community Action Category.
The objective of the SCVO Scottish Charity Awards 2012 is to celebrate the vital work of charities, community groups and individuals dedicated to making Scotland a better place to live. There are five categories, and the winner of each will be decided by voting online. Laggan Forest Trust was founded on a partnership with the Forestry Commission Scotland in 1998 and aims to build and nurture community, conservation, leisure, employment and business partnerships.
Mr Thompson said, “I nominated Laggan Forest Trust for the work they do in safeguarding community interests and conserving and restoring woodlands.
“The charity is completely community owned and managed and, working in partnership with the Forestry Commission, it engages in various projects to maintain all essential aspects of community life, like the local school and local shop, as well as try and increase local employment.
“I am delighted that the Charity Awards have recognised Laggan Forest Trust and no matter what the result, I hope the Trust will continue to make a difference in the local area.”
