SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, Dave Thompson, has welcomed the passage of the Olympic Torch Relay through three major areas of his constituency.
The Torch came up through Lochaber, passing through Glencoe and Fort William before travelling up the A82 through Fort Augustus and Drumnadrochit, and then crossing Loch Ness in a boat to the Rock Ness Festival and then on to Inverness on Saturday, where Emilie Sande headlined in a free concert at Northern Meeting Park in Inverness, to an audience of 19,000.
This morning, the torch relay left Inverness, and travelled through Aviemore, where Dave witnessed one of the relay transfers, on its way to Aberdeen.
Commenting on this historic occasion, Mr Thompson said: “I was immensely proud to see the Olympic Torch travelling the length and breath of the country so that as many people as possible are given the opportunity to see this symbol of unity and peace.
“My only disappointment was that the torch did not visit the Isle of Skye, given that it was possible to include Stornoway in the route.
“My congratulations go out to those who were selected to carry the torch on its way around the country.
“I wish all the Olympians the very best of luck in the Games, and look forward to watching some of it myself, when time allows.
