Dave Thompson MSP for Skye Lochaber and Badenoch has today welcomed the news that no more 2+1 overtaking lanes will be built on the A9.
Mr Thompson said, “The Cabinet Secretary has scored a big hit with the announcement that the A9 dualling construction should start in 2015, but a further positive that this highlights is that no more 2+1 overtaking lanes will be built.
“These projects on the A9 were pushed through by the previous Labour/Lib Dem Scottish Executive and were very unpopular with local folk. Unfortunately, the incoming Scottish Government was presented with a fait accompli in 2007, as not proceeding with the schemes when they were so far advanced would have wasted public money.
“However, now that the SNP Scottish Government is rapidly proceeding with dualling of the A9, we will no longer see funds being used on what were very unsatisfactory developments and it is good to see that the proposed 2+1 at Kincraig to Dalraddy is now to proceed directly to dual carriageway in 2015.”
