Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, has signed a declaration aspiring for a Scotland where people are free from being judged or labelled.
Amina – the Muslims Women’s Resource Centre, were in the Scottish Parliament to promote their ‘I speak for myself’ campaign. The campaign aims to empower Muslim women by promoting the sharing of personal message with other Scots, and promoting a dialogue to tackle stereotypes.
Amina were founded in 1997 by a Scottish Muslim community who felt that mainstream services weren’t reaching many Muslim women.
Commenting on this, Dave Thompson said: “I am delighted to support Amina’s ‘I speak for myself’ campaign, and to sign the declaration striving for a Scotland where people aren’t judged or labelled. This is precisely the image of Scotland that the SNP want to promote; a modern, forward thinking and inclusive Scotland.
Promoting a regular dialogue between minority religious communities who can often feel excluded is one of the most positive steps we can take to challenge stereotypes.
Amina provide invaluable support and services to Muslim women, and I wish their campaign every success.”
