Dave Thompson MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has today (22/05/2014) welcomed the fantastic news that the town of Fort William has come fifth in a UK survey of excellence by renowned online travel site TripAdvisor on visitor destinations.

Mr Thompson praised the hard working establishments that assisted TripAdvisor in coming to their decision and is glad that the town is being recognised in a manner befitting the high quality services provided.

Dave commented: "The town of Fort William being recognised in such a positive light is more in keeping with what locals and visitors are already accustomed and it flies in the face of a recent national travel magazine report that advised the Lochaber town was not a place worth stopping.”

He went on: “Anyone who has lived in or has visited Fort William recently will know that the town boasts many high quality restaurants and offers up fantastic accommodation opportunities so to have this confirmed by such a highly regarded travel site really is icing on the cake!”

That the Parliament welcomes what it considers the terrific news that Fort William has been named as one of the top 10 UK towns where you are most likely to find a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award winner; notes that the awards celebrate hospitality excellence and are given only to establishments that which consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor; believes that this accolade is justified due to the high standard and availability of restaurants and hotels in the area; recognises the importance of Fort William to the Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch tourist industry; congratulates those establishments that helped TripAdvisor come to their decision, and considers that establishments in Fort William will continue to provide the high quality service to which locals and visitors have become accustomed.
