Dave Thompson MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch will use General Questions in the Scottish Parliament on Thursday (05/06/2014) to ask the Scottish Government to update him on progress regarding development and permanent recruiting in the model “Dewar” West Lochaber group practice based in Arisaig and Mallaig.
Mr Thompson’s general question will be as follows, “To ask the Scottish Government whether it will provide an update on the progress of the models for GP practices in rural areas”.
But, crucially, he will follow up with a supplementary dealing with the West Lochaber group practice based in Arisaig and Mallaig. His particular concern is the continuing use of locums which is expensive. This has resulted from, despite strenuous efforts by the lead GP Dr Gartshore and NHS Highland, the continuing difficulty in recruiting suitably qualified GP’s prepared to work in the area full time.
