Dave Thompson MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch responded recently to concerns that the Friends of the Old Fort (FOOF) site in Fort William has become a place synonymous with anti-social behaviour, by writing to Police Scotland on behalf of members of FOOF, highlighting the fact there are no CCTV cameras in the area.
Police Scotland responded to Mr Thompson stating that there has been a discussion with Chief Inspector Colin Gough, Area Commander for South Highland who has informed that local officers regularly pay passing attention to deter and detect any instances of anti-social behaviour and it is included in local officer’s patrol plans.
And, with reference to the on-going issue of there being no CCTV in the area, Police Scotland have advised that this measure needs to be proposed with Highland Council, at which point the police are happy to be involved in any discussions on the matter.
In response to this, Dave said: “I am pleased that the Police are taking these concerns seriously and I acknowledge their continued and committed presence in the area as positive”.
Dave went on: “I have taken the opportunity to write to Highland Council with regards the possible use of public space CCTV at the FOOF site. I look forward to receiving their response and to working with anyone who has constructive suggestions as to how we can make the area as safe as possible for visitors to the spot”.
