On Friday the 15th August at 18:30 an Independence Referendum Debate will take place in Dingwall Academy. Panelists from Yes Scotland and BetterTogether will be led by Dave Thompson MSP and Mary Scanlon MSP respectively.
Dingwall Academy have kindly agreed to the use of their assembly hall to accommodate both accessibility and a sizable audience. The debate will have a focus on young voters - particularly school, further and higher education students but all ages are, of course, encouraged to come.
Chairing the debate will be Independent Councillor for Dingwall and Seaforth, Alister Mackinnon. Speakers for Yes Scotland will be Dave Thompson MSP, Aodhan Byrne and Greg Shand. Speakers for BetterTogether will be Mary Scanlon MSP, David Green and John Erskine.
Both MSPs will give a five minute speech and the other speakers will have three minutes each. Afterward the floor will be opened to the audience to ask questions. It is expected the debate will conclude around 20:30 and then the audience will have a chance to vote.
Note:
David Thompson is SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch
Mary Scanlon is the Conservative MSP for the Highland and Islands Region
Aodhan Byrne is a student of Stirling University
Greg Shand is a graduate of the University of Northumbria
David Green is a political researcher for Charles Kennedy
John Erskine is the Labour candidate for Caithness, Sutherland & Easter Ross.
