Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, has welcomed the news that Fort William Marina and Shoreline Association is to receive £150,000 to install pontoons.
The money will come from the Town Centre Communities Capital Fund (TCCCF), which has awarded funding to 21 town centre groups all over Scotland.
It is hoped that the pontoons will encourage sailing vessels of all sizes to stop in Fort William, from small vessels to tenders carrying passengers from large cruise ships, which will give a huge boost to the town, which is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland.
Commenting on this, Mr Thompson said: “I would like to congratulate Sarah Kennedy and the members of the Fort William Marine and Shoreline Association for their continuing hard work to make this project happen.
“I hope that the pontoons will bring many more tourists to this wonderful, friendly town. Tourism is essential for the survival of towns like Fort William and I hope that these pontoons can give a well needed boost to the local economy.
“I wish the Association well with the building of the pontoons and look forward to hearing that they have been successful in bringing in lots of visitors.”
