SNP MSP for the Highlands and Islands, Dave Thompson, has welcomed the responses that have been received to the consultation paper that was recently sent out to households.
Just last month, 8398 consultation letters were sent out to households throughout the Lochaber area regarding the future of Invernevis House Care Home.
The consultation closed today (25 October 2010) and so far almost 1800 responses have been received, giving a response rate of over 21%.
Early indications are showing that over 96% of respondents are in favour of retaining a refurbished Invernevis House as a Council-run care home, with less that 4% in favour of relying on privately run care homes.
Commenting on this, Mr Thompson said; I am thankful to the residents of Lochaber for taking the time to respond to this consultation, as I personally feel very strongly that Invernevis House should be retained as a Council-run care home and should be refurbished.
I am astounded at the number of responses that have been received and will be publishing my report very shortly.
I would hope that when the report is published, Highland Council use the report as a gauge of public opinion and listen to it before making their final decision on the fate of Invernevis House and its staff.
