SKYE, Lochaber and Badenoch MSP Dave Thompson has written to Transport Minister Keith Brown to promote a multi-agency solution to the closure of the A890 Lochcarron to Kyle road within his constituency.
Mr Thompson’s intervention follows the closure of the road following a landslide at Stromeferry in late December.
Following the fall of more than 100 tonnes of rock on December 22nd, there have been calls for the reinstatement of a former ferry service as an alternative to the 140 mile road diversion needed to pass the site of the avalanche.
This week, a proposal to allow cars to drive along the nearby West Highland Rail Line was also suggested by officials at The Highland Council.
“It is vital that we are able to look at a full range of potential solutions to this terrible situation affecting my constituents,” said Mr Thompson.
“With alternative transport arrangements involving the use of ferry or rail facilities coming to light, it is vital that Transport Scotland is brought in to help expedite consideration of such measures.
“Both Rob Gibson and myself have been in contact with the minister about the situation over the recent Christmas recess to ensure that local residents, businesses and visitors face the least inconvenience possible.”
