Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, has today lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament to congratulate the Glenurquhart Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland on winning the Champion of Champions title in the Best Kept War Memorial 2012 for their maintenance of Drumnadrochit War Memorial.
Commenting on this, Mr Thompson said: “I am delighted to lodge this motion in Parliament congratulating Glenurquhart British Legion on winning this award. The care and dedication shown by members of the Branch in tending this War Memorial has been well rewarded.
“I myself took part in two services on Remembrance Sunday, in Dingwall and Inverness and it was an honour and a privilege to pay my respects to Scotland’s heroes, both past and present.
“It is important that we all remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and laid down their lives in order that we can live without fear or retribution.
“I hope that this will inspire future generations to get involved and help to make sure that Scotland’s heroes are honoured and remembered by making sure that all of our War Memorials are kept in the best possible condition."

Scottish Parliament Motion
S4M-04868 - Drumnadrochit War Memorial
That the Parliament congratulates the Glenurquhart Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland on winning the Champion of Champions in the Best Kept War Memorial of 2012 for Drumnadrochit War Memorial; recognises that this would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of Legion Members; further remembers and honours those who are listed on the memorial for their service and their sacrifice; notes that without the dedication of the Royal British Legion Scotland and its members, many war memorials would fall into serious disrepair; hopes that other organisations and communities will become involved in the maintenance and repair of Scotland’s memorials to our war dead; and hopes that this will inspire future generations to ensure that all of our War Memorials are looked after and tended, to make sure that Scotland’s heroes are honoured and remembered.
