Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch will mark International Workers Day this Sunday, 28th April, by taking part in an open air meeting at Friars Shott, Huntly Street, Inverness.
International Workers Memorial Day raises awareness and promotes remembrance of all those who tragically lost their lives through their work.
Dave said: “It is an honour to be invited to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day with the Inverness Trades Union Council.
“A great many people have made huge sacrifice over a great many decades, from heavy industry workers since the Industrial Revolution to more recent incidents such as the tragic death of Morris Haddock on a rig at Invergordon last month.
“It is appropriate as we mark this day to remember that the rights for workers in 2013 have been fought for and secured over many hundreds of years, and it is regrettable that we have a Government in power in Westminster who are doing all they can to reduce these fundamental employment rights.
“International Workers’ Memorial Day reminds us of the sacrifices made, and highlights the importance of guarantees for the safety of workers which we must not allow to erode.”
