Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed the news that four Lochaber projects will share almost £40,000 in funding from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All grant.
The four groups; The Buzz Project, Mallaig high School, Morvern Games and Gala Week committee, and Glencoe Play Sports have all received the funding for youth related projects. These include music education for vulnerable young people with experience of drug/ alcohol misuse, the purchase of mountain bikes for use by pupils taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh award programme, the construction of a storage shed for the Morvern Gala games and the upgrading of a village playpark.
Commenting on this, Dave said: “I am delighted to welcome the award of these grants to the four Lochaber projects, each of which will provide an excellent opportunity for young people in the community.
“Youth programmes are an excellent opportunity to improve skills and training, which can have a positive impact on future prospects. Youth unemployment in Scotland is falling, and programmes like those provided by youth Highland can make a significant contribution to this.
“I wish all organisations who have secured a grant every success with their planned activities, and look forward to welcoming future grants from the Big Lottery Fund to Lochaber.”
