Dave Thompson MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed the news from the Scottish Government that a pilot will start next year to allow HGV’s on single track sections of the A9 to travel at 50mph legally.
The pilot was announced to coincide with the installation of average speed cameras on the A9.
Mr Thompson said "I am delighted that a 50 mph limit for lorries will be trialled on the A9 when the speed cameras are introduced which is exactly what I called for. I am certain that this will make a huge difference to travel and safety on the A9 whilst it is being duelled over the next 12 years. Having experienced large queues of cars behind lorries on the A9 and having had several near misses over the years from vehicles on the wrong side of the road, I applaud the SNP government for being the first to take this seriously and invest in the future of the Highlands."
