Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, has today welcomed the report from the Evangelical Alliance entitled What Kind of Nation?
The report was launched at a Parliamentary Reception on Wednesday 23rd April at the Scottish Parliament. Mr Thompson co-sponsored the event alongside Conservative MSP and fellow Christian Murdo Fraser. “What Kind of Nation?” is the Evangelical Alliance’s contribution to the Referendum Debate and will hopefully pave the way for a number of hustings style events, which they hope to run later in the spring. It looks at the four pillars of Scottish Society (economy, family, civic society/communities and environment) in light of the four values of the Scottish Parliament (wisdom, justice, compassion and integrity) engraved on the ceremonial Mace gifted by the Queen. Thereby the Report aims to developed these strands and add meaningful value to the whole constitutional debate.
Commenting on this, Mr Thompson said: “I was delighted to co-sponsor the event in the Scottish Parliament with Murdo Fraser. He and I may not hold the same political beliefs but we are both Christians and we both believe in meaningful debate in the run up to the Referendum.
“I was also very pleased to stand in and deliver the Minister’s speech.
“I would like to encourage people to read the report, much of which (but not all) I would be happy to endorse and be involved in discussions prior to September’s Referendum, where I am confident that the people of Scotland will vote YES to Scotland once again being an independent, socially-just nation once again.
