Dave Thompson MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch signs Gold Standard Ticket for Epilepsy Care in Awareness Week.
Dave Thompson SNP MSP was delighted to show his support for new SIGN national guidelines on managing epilepsy in adults by signing a gold standard ticket on Wednesday 21 May. Dave, pictured here with his gold standard ticket, was glad to be part of the Epilepsy Consortium Scotland (ECS) gathering to promote forthcoming revised guidelines covering 50,000 adults with epilepsy and to highlight National Epilepsy Week (18-24 May).
Mr Thompson said: “A significant number of my constituents in Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch are adults who have epilepsy. I want the very best care to be available to them and their families whenever it is required. I will be discussing with the local NHS board how they can do their best to ensure the latest SIGN guidelines are implemented. It will be helpful if we can meet this new gold standard in epilepsy care when it is launched after recess.
He added: “I am supporting National Epilepsy Week because this is a common, serious neurological condition which many of us still know little about. Indeed, the sixth epilepsy debate took place in the Parliament this week and I was happy to sign the Members Motion, put forward by Kenneth Gibson MSP, who is looking to tackle the stigma of epilepsy through education. Further, National Epilepsy Week is a good opportunity to do what I can to raise awareness even further and I will continue to do what I can to raise awareness into the future.”
Note:
The Epilepsy Consortium Scotland (ECS) is an umbrella body aiming to bring issues concerning the 54,000 people living in the country with epilepsy to the attention of policy makers and the Scottish Government. It also offers an important channel for comprehensive feedback on what is happening in the field of epilepsy at a local and national level. ECS acts as a collective voice for the wider epilepsy community in Scotland. Current membership details at :www.epilepsyconsortiumscotland.co.uk
