Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch is pleased to learn that The Co-operative Food will be dispersing £750,000 to groups and organisations that serve their various communities.
The funds were raised via the 5p levy on single-use shopping bags and by the sale of their reusable bags. Community organisations can now be nominated for disbursements ranging from £200 to £2500, with the nominees ultimately selected in November.
Mr Thompson said, “It is very important for businesses to be conscious of the people who make up our communities, and to endeavour to reinvest in them whenever possible.
“This is a very welcome initiative, and it would be refreshing for plans of this kind to be more common”.
