AFTER learning that an initiative to convince local children not to cover streets with their litter and discarded chewing gum is having a positive effect, local MSP Dave Thompson said:
“I was pleased to see that this message of civic responsibility and pride in the appearance of the community is being listened to by local children.
“This year, Dingwall Academy’s New Year resolution was to reduce the amount of litter in the school grounds and on surrounding streets and I am pleased to hear that this has resulted in a noticeable improvement since the turn of the year.
“I am glad that pupils and teachers are doing what they can to keep it that way and the ‘Bin It’ campaign, which involved the school children this morning certainly seemed to be well received by all present. Local children appear to be receptive to the message that discarded rubbish has a negative effect on the surroundings where the litter-louts themselves and their families live.
The ‘Bin It’ campaign roadshow will continue to Kingussie High School on Wednesday (22nd) and Glen Urquhart High School on Thursday (23rd).
