Dave Thompson MSP for Skye Lochaber and Badenoch yesterday met the new leader of Highland Council Drew Hendry, Hugh Fraser the Director of Education and Alasdair Christie the new Chair of the Adult & Children’s Services Committee to discuss the way forward for Gaelic Medium Education.
It was a very constructive meeting and the new Gaelic Implementation Group has been tasked with looking at a number of positive options.
Mr Thompson said: “I really appreciate the speed with which the new Administration has moved on the various issues surrounding the teaching of Gaelic to our Highland youngsters, and the particular issue at Broadford Primary. I am delighted too that the new implementation grouping will be on the case immediately.
Highland Council Leader Drew Hendry said: “we were pleased to meet with Dave Thompson and to discuss ways forward for the Gaelic language in the Highlands. Working together I am confident that we will be able to see Gaelic gain greater impact”.
