A new statue of a Skye Terrier was revealed today at Armadale Castle as part of a celebration to raise aware awareness of the iconic breed. The event has been organised by the Skye Terrier Club in conjunction with Clan Donald Skye and the “homecoming” statue itself by Georgie Welch will be unveiled by Princess Anne.
Dave Thompson MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch who was been invited to commemorate this important event said: “I had the opportunity to oversee the handover of the model that was used to make the famous Greyfriars Bobby statue, which was gifted to the Skye Terrier Club last year so it brings me great pleasure to get the chance to be part of the Skye Terrier story yet again”.
The museum will have several sculptures of Skye Terriers on display, one of which is by the internationally-renowned figurative sculptor, Edouard-Marcel Sandoz (1881-1971).
Dave said: “Sky Terriers are a rare breed and as such they ought to be preserved. I am thankful to any initiative that raises awareness of this wonderful animal and expect that visitors from all over the world will be flocking to Armadale Castle to see the statues and learn more about Skyes”.
