Dave Thompson MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch is delighted by the recent news that the Dingwall Drop-in Youth Kafe and the Dingwall Youth Sub Aqua Club have secured a total of £90,012 worth of funding after a successful application to Young Start.

Commenting on the news Mr Thompson said, “The extra funds allocated to these initiatives will offer young people in Dingwall the chance to socialise and learn new skills, resulting in a fantastic boost to an already vibrant town”.

The Dingwall Drop-In Youth Kafe received a £40,040 grant, which will enable the continuation of educational and recreational sessions on a wide range of topics being delivered to people aged 12 – 18 years.

The Dingwall Youth Sub Aqua Club’s award totalled £49,972 and will be used over two years to deliver a programme of water and scuba-diving activities for young people. The project means 60 young people will experience sheltered water activities for the first time and existing youth managers will be offered the opportunity to increase their involvement in managing the club. The grant will also allow the organisation to purchase a club vehicle for the first time.

Dave said, “The combined grants total of £90,012 is a significant sum of money and it pleases me greatly that both the Dingwall Drop-in Youth Kafe and the Dingwall Youth Sub Aqua Club are putting the funds to such great use”.

He went on, “Both ventures will enhance the opportunities available for young people to learn new skills in a friendly and safe environment, leading to new acquaintances and a generally more joined-up feeling within the town”.

He concluded, “Finally, I would like to pass on my congratulations to all those already involved in the youth clubs, especially the hardworking volunteers, without whom there would be no clubs at all and I wish them every success with their future endeavours”.
