Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, has written to Highland Council to establish the legitimacy of the consultation on the proposed amalgamation of Edinbane, Dunvegan, Struan, and Knockbreck Primary Schools, and to establish a new amalgamated community school in Dunvegan.
The issue was raised with him by concerned parents.
Commenting on this, Mr Thompson said: “I am concerned about the possible closure of three Primary Schools and the proposals for a newly amalgamated community school. I am seeking reassurances from Highland Council that the current relevant legislation has been adhered to and all options considered.
“While I understand that Highland Council has to work within tight financial budgets, it is imperative that the potential effects on the education of the children in these areas is paramount and must be considered with great care.
“I am hoping that Highland Council can reassure me and the parents of the children concerned that everything that is being done, is being done properly and in full compliance with the current legal stipulations.
