The Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland awards has awarded “The Buzz Project”, based in Fort William, £5,000 towards the salary of a Senior Youth Worker.
The award has been made through the Henry Duncan Awards (HDA), which funds local charities with an annual income of less than £500,000, working at grass roots level and supporting the work of those groups improving the quality of life for disadvantaged people.
In welcoming the award, Dave Thompson SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch said, “Funds towards the salary of a Senior Youth Worker will mean those involved will benefit from the added continuity that a salaried worker will provide, enabling a better organised framework for events and consistency for folk engaging with the group”.
The Buzz Project enables young people aged 14-25 in Lochaber and further afield in the Highlands, to identify and fulfil their potential. The Buzz Project bus travels out to various venues to provide a mobile music studio and teaching area, meaning expressive music interests are catered for, when they otherwise would not and is supported by an education programme covering personal and organisational development.
Dave went on, “The Buzz Project is a great initiative. I would like to send my best wishes to the person who gets the job of Senior Youth Worker and to everyone else involved in the Buzz Project”.
