Dave Thompson SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed an almost £100k grant to Culbokie Community Trust from the Scottish Land Fund to purchase a 1.2 Acre site to act as a new village “Square”.
He said, “This is great news. This is a vote of confidence in an enthusiastic Black Isle community.
He went on, “It is important for a growing village to have a central focal point and these plans do exactly that, with a community café, some parking, units for a few shops or other commercial enterprises and a handful of small bungalows to add to the residential offing in the area.
He ended with, “I wish the Community Trust and Ms Penny Edwards in particular best wishes in the development of their plans.
Notes:
The Scottish Land Fund is delighted to inform you Culbokie Community Trust in your Ross Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch constituency has recently been successful in applying to the Scottish Land Fund, securing a £96,691 award.
Culbokie Community Trust will purchase 0.5ha (1.2 acres) of land in the centre of the village of Culbokie, Dingwall, Highland. The purchase, under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, will bring this strategic site into community ownership and control and creates the opportunity for it to be developed to create a new village ‘square’ as a focal point and gathering place for community activities and events for this rapidly increasing community, and to provide space for the future development of a community cafe and small commercial/service delivery units, car parking, and 6 small bungalows.
I hope that you will join with us in congratulating;
Ms Penny Edwards

The Scottish Land Fund supports rural communities to become more resilient and sustainable through the ownership and management of land and land assets. It provides practical support and funding to enable local people to work together to develop their ideas and aspirations, put in place effective structures, and plan and complete viable land and land assets acquisition projects.
The Scottish Land Fund has made £10 million available since 2012 to help communities complete the purchase and some initial development and management of local land and land assets.
The Scottish Land Fund is funded by the Scottish Government and delivered in partnership by the Big Lottery Fund and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
