Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch took the opportunity recently (20/03/15) to speak at the busy Scottish Young Crofters Conference in Glencanisp on the Assynt Estate, just outside Lochinver.
Mr Thompson said, “It was great to engage with the crofters of today and the crofters of tomorrow at what was a busy and highly participative event held at Glencanisp Lodge on the Assynt Estate near Lochinver.
“I have long supported the needs of crofters and farmers, which is why in my own response to the Consultation on the Croft House Grant Scheme, I recommended that the levels of assistance to the proposed new high and standard priority areas should be at least £40,000 and preferably at least double the current rate”.
Dave went on, “There is still time to get back to the croft house grant scheme but the window of opportunity is closing.
“I would urge everyone with an interest to make their submissions known before the closing date of 31st March”.
