Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch is delighted to learn that through Asda’s Carrier Bag Grant System, Kingussie Community Development Company has recently been awarded £2,000 for their community hydro plan.
Using the single-use carrier bag charge, introduced last year, Asda are investing in local communities by using the proceeds to support local projects. To ensure grants are as locally relevant as possible, regional selection panels of Asda colleagues vote on the projects to benefit.
Kingussie Community Development Company has been working to install a new community hydro plant on the river Gynack. The grant will contribute towards the renovation of the area following the construction of the hydro project, to make it suitable for both locals and visitors to the site.
Mr Thompson said, “I am delighted that Kingussie Community Development Company has been awarded £2,000 for the new community hydro plan on the river Gynack.
“The intention is also to include picnic tables, paths and a bridge around the site, all suitable for wheelchair users, which is excellent news.
“Local schools will be encouraged to visit and locals and tourists will benefit enormously from this fantastic new addition to the area”.
Note:
If you know of any other community groups in your area that might benefit from a grant, speak to Community Life Champion at their local Asda store or find out more information online: www.foundationscotland.org.uk/asda
