Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed the news from Education Scotland that the Black Isle Education Centre has improved in a number of key areas.
The two young people on the school roll now experience a broader curriculum, including helpful work experience and are taking greater responsibility for their learning, as well as teachers offering an increased number of relevant qualifications to youngsters.
This follows an HM Inspectors published report in 2011 which included an intention to return to the school to assess improvements. The inspectors returned to the school and are now confident the school has the capacity to continue to improve and do not plan on visiting the school again in connection with the improvements required in 2011.
Mr Thompson said, “It is welcome news that the Black Isle Education Centre continues to improve and it also goes to show that there is great value in inspections of educational facilities as we continue to strive to raise educational standards”.
Note:
As part of the ongoing liaison between Education Scotland and Highland Council, an Area Lead Officer will continue to monitor the school’s progress.
