Dave Thompson SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed the news that the recent independence debate hosted by West Highland College UHI resulted in a victory at the ballot box for YES!

The debate featured Mr Thompson who was representing Yes Scotland at the event. Thompson went head to head with the former leader of the Liberal Democrats - Charles Kennedy MP who was representing the Better Together campaign.

Dave congratulated the work of the students in organising the event and paid tribute to his opponent for the spirit by which the debate was undertaken.

In acknowledging the result of the ballot which was held after the debate, Dave said: “I’m very pleased that the YES side won by over 2/1 in favour of independence and I hope that results like these will be replicated after similar debates all over the country

Dave went on: “However, as nice as this victory is we must mobilise the support we already have by getting them out the on the street from now until the referendum to convince those yet untouched by our movement that a YES vote in September will be to the benefit of Scotland. Ultimately, this is the vote that really counts”.
