The youth debate that took place in Dingwall Academy on Friday the 15th of August was a well-attended success.
The debate was chaired by local Independent Councillor Alister Mackinnon with Dave Thompson MSP, Aodhan Byrne and Greg Shand making the case for a Yes vote; and Mary Scanlon MSP, David Green and John Erskine making the case for a No vote. Also joining them was Margaret Kinsman who provided British Sign Language.
Thank you for all those who gave donations at the end of the debate as it helped raised just enough to cover the cost of hiring the hall.
All six speakers maintained a respectful dialogue towards each other and towards members of the audience with praise given to Margaret for her terrific job as the sign language interpreter. The questions asked by the audience were diverse meaning many important topics were covered during the two hour debate.
Around 180 people attended the debate in high spirits, and the percentage of the audience which were younger voters was higher than the average for many of debates which have taken place around the Dingwall area in the past.
