Dave Thompson SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch has welcomed a highly constructive letter from the Chief Executive of Transport Scotland, David Middleton, in response to the concerns he raised, regarding urgent maintenance work for the A87.
He said, “This is a considered letter. It points out that many of the issues stem from the impact of the recent severe winter weather.
He went on, “it is quite explicit that the patching currently underway is a temporary measure until resurfacing work can be programmed, and that these works should start next month as the spring weather takes hold.
Lastly, it also alludes to more significant structural maintenance being brought forward in the course of the current financial year.
He finished with, “It is unfortunate that the road has deteriorated so much this winter, but this is a good response from Transport Scotland who are having to work in a highly challenging Austerity driven financial environment.
An environment which is set to continue after the UK General Election, unless the capital programme advocated by the SNP is accepted by the incoming UK Government.
